Meet the Team

James W Voss

Chairman: James W Voss, EurIng, F.I.Nuc.E, C.Eng 

James is a nuclear engineer with 40 years of professional experience and a Fellow of the Nuclear Institute, a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a European Engineer (EurIng).  James has worked in 42 countries in nuclear safety, nuclear facility decommissioning, radioactive waste management, nuclear fuel storage, nuclear and renewable energy, environmental engineering. 

He is the President of the Terra Verde Group of Companies and has served as a senior executive of companies in the US, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Spain. 

James has pioneered site remediation technology for uranium and plutonium at the US Nevada Test Site and the UK AWE facility at Aldermaston.  He is on the Steering Committee of Florida International University and is a visiting lecturer at University College London.  He is the author or co-author of over 50 publications.

Malcom Thomson

Managing Director: Malcolm L Thomson, MIMechE, CEng

Malcolm is a Nuclear Consultant and a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 25 years design and development experience in the Nuclear Industry. Having completed an apprenticeship with Jaguar motors he joined UKAEA as a Project Engineer at Dounreay where he was involved with the development of liquid sodium technology for the fast breeder reactor.

He left UKAEA to join Amersham International and worked on several projects associated with waste management and remote handling  techniques for the handling of radioactive products. He joined NSG Environmental Ltd in 1982 as a Project Engineer and progressed through engineering management and consultancy to the position of Managing Director in 1992.  During this period he was responsible for all R&D projects at  three test facilities at Hayes, Long Marston and Bolton. These projects included waste encapsulation processes; remote handling; volume reduction; material segregation; waste compaction; decommissioning processes; waste simulant production and characterisation.

From 1993 to 2001 Malcolm was the Managing Director of NSG Environmental, consolidating the services from Leyland within the NIS Group of companies, providing the full range of radwaste and decommissioning services. Malcolm is now an independent consultant advising the nuclear industry on a variety of different subjects under the decommissioning and waste management headings.

Jim Sims

Head of Development: Jim Sims BA(Hons) MCIM APM

Jim was trained as an Industrial Designer, but has built his career in innovation and business development, having written and co-authored a range of Horizon 2020, Innovate UK and EU funded research proposals.  Jim is a highly commercial manager with a proven track record in business strategy and service development in both the public and private sectors.

He has significant experience in designing, developing, financing and launching innovative, new products and services in complex policy environments. Jim is now an independent consultant advising universities, local authorities and businesses on innovation, R&D and service design.
